New Galata Bridge and Beautification of Eminönü and Karaköy Squares

Key features of Work Scope:
The project involved the construction of a 490 m. Long and 42 m. wide (2x3 vehicular lanes, 2x1 walkways) bridge supported by tubular steel pipes. It also covered the beautification of Eminonu and Karakoy Squares at each end of the bridge. The deck consist of three parts; two of them having 193 m. length are supported by tubular steel piles of 85 m. long and 2,000 mm in diameter. These spans are prestressed R.C. double deckers; the upper deck is for the traffic and the lower one is for shopping and sightseeing. The middle section is a 2x40,5 meter span bascule supported by two reinforced concrete caissons of 5,500 tons built underwater on tubular steel piles.
